VOLTA

Privacy

Last updated 4 November 2026

Volta is an app on your phone and nothing else. I run no servers for it, so there's nowhere for your data to go except the two services the app works with: MG's i-SMART and Google Maps Platform.

What Volta stores

All of it on your phone, in the app's private storage.

DataHow it's stored
MG i-SMART mobile number and passwordEncrypted, AES-256-GCM with an Android Keystore key
MG session tokenEncrypted, the same way
Your Google Maps Platform keyEncrypted, the same way
Settings, such as whether you finished setupPlain app preferences

The encryption key lives in the Android Keystore and can't be exported. Volta turns off cloud backup and device transfer for its data, so none of it is copied to Google Drive or to a new phone.

Who Volta talks to

ServiceWhat's sentWhy
MG i-SMART, MG Motor India's serversYour mobile number and password at sign-in, then your session tokenTo read your car's status, the way the official MG app does
Google Maps PlatformYour API key, the app's package name and signing certificate, and the places a trip needsRoutes, charging stops and food stops

Nothing else. No analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no account with me. Volta reads your car's data from MG and keeps it on your phone; it doesn't copy it anywhere.

Deleting your data

Nothing to restore. Because nothing is kept anywhere else, a reinstall starts from scratch: you sign in to MG and add your Google key again, and set up anything else you'd changed in Settings.

Your car's data held by MG, and your Google Cloud project, are managed in MG's app and in Google Cloud Console. Volta can't change them.
